Garden Club 2016-2017 Meeting Schedule

Location and times for all general meetings, unless otherwise specified: Cheney Mansion, 220 N. Euclid, Oak Park.

Refreshments begin at 12:00 pm; the business meeting begins at 12:30pm; the program at 1:00pm and ends at approximately 2:00 pm. General meetings are free and open to the public; guests are welcomed.

Wednesday, September 13, 12 noon — Refreshments and socializing, followed by a short business meeting, then a Floral Demonstration presented by Therese McGurie of Garland Flowers. Arrangements will be raffled. All are welcome! (Cheney Mansion)

Sunday, October 1, 1:30 – 2:30 — “Spring and Winter Bulbs” Forcing paperwhites and amaryllises for winter indoor blooms, planning your spring bulb garden: crocuses, daffodils, tulips, and more. Oak Park Main Library, Community Engagement Space.

Wednesday, October 11, 12 noon — Refreshments and socializing, followed by a short business meeting, then “Beneficial Mushrooms,” with Wes Wallace of Little Red Schoolhouse (Cheney Mansion)

Wednesday, November 11, 12 noon — Refreshments and socializing, followed by a short business meeting, then “Butterflies are Free,” with Stephanie Walquist of West Cook Wild Ones (Cheney Mansion)

Wednesday, December 13, 12 noon — Refreshments and socializing, followed by a short business meeting, then “Go Green Holiday Containers,” with Ken Benson (Cheney Mansion)

Wednesday, January 28, 12 noon — Refreshments and socializing, followed by a short business meeting, then “Behind Springtime — what’s going on as the garden comes alive,” with Beth Botts, at Oak Park Main Library Veterans’ Room, 834 Lake Street, Oak Park. (Cheney Mansion)

Wednesday, February 14, 12 noon — Refreshments and socializing, followed by a short business meeting, then “Honey Bees and Pollination,” with Charles & Karen Lorence (Cheney Mansion)

Saturday, February 17, 10 – 11 a.m. — “Seed starting for vegetable gardens,” Oak Park Main Library, Small Meeting Room.

Wednesday, March 14, 12 noon — Refreshments and socializing, followed by a short business meeting, then “Neighborhood Wildlife,” with Irene Flebe of Trailside Museum (Cheney Mansion)

Wednesday, April 11, 12 noon — Refreshments and socializing, followed by a short business meeting, then “Green Products for Yard and Home,” with Peggy McGrath (Cheney Mansion)
Sunday, April 22, 3 – 4 p.m. — “Dahlias! Planning dahlias for late autumn blooms,” Oak Park Main Library, Veterans Room.

Wednesday, May 9, 12 noon — Refreshments and socializing, followed by a short business meeting, then “Best Plants of 2018 — Container Demonstration,” with Kim Hartmen of Countryside Gardens (fee applies) (Cheney Mansion)

Garden Walk – An annual June garden walk in the villages of Oak Park and River Forest is co-sponsored by the Garden Club of Oak Park River Forest and the Friends of the Oak Park Conservatory (FOPCON) Further information and on-line ticket purchase will be available online in 2018.
