• Did you know that Illinois has a state climatologist? Several members of the board attended the GCI convention in April and enjoyed a talk by Dr. Trent Ford. His presentation is not yet available on the state website, but you’ll find some interesting information by clicking on “Climate Change in Illinois” at Illinois State Climatologist A cryptic summary of some of his conclusions, which are worth further study: Illinois is getting a bit warmer, with the most notable seasonal changes in the temperature of winters, and with additional heat and humidity at night during the summers.
• Our fellow Garden Clubs will soon be hosting their own garden walks. Keep informed through GCI’s Garden Glories available to all members by mail, and on the GCI members only webpage.
• On March 22 the National Garden Club held a virtual program by noted naturalist and author, Doug Tallamy, speaking on “Homegrown National Park—Networking Naturally.” His video is available here. Thank you, GCI rep Irene Williams, for finding this for us.

The Garden Club has recently received five awards from the Garden Clubs of Illinois. We won a 3rd place Myrtle R. Walgreen Memorial Award for a Civic Project, and an Honorable Mention in “Planting for Pollinators.” Both awards stem from the Civic Beautification Project at the Oak Park Art League.

The club also tied for 2nd place for our Garden Therapy program conducted by Sue Milojevic and Gina Sennello, and an award for greatest number of new members among clubs with 100-299 members. We received a Special Award rosette because the first two projects were eligible to compete nationally.
