This presentation will outline how to prepare your garden for winter.  With a focus on perennial gardens you’ll learn what to cut down, how and when to cut it and how to prevent this year’s problems from recurring in future years.

David Brooks is a professional naturalist with the Spring Valley Nature Center in Schaumburg IL.  David will present options available to reduce our environmental footprint, while reducing time, money and effort spent on landscape maintenance, pest control and plant replacement.

The Gardener as Artist – Think Outside the Phlox


Nina is a horticulturist, educator, and garden writer.  She has taught horticulture, design and residential garden design history for the Chicago Botanic Garden and the Morton Arboretum since 1998, and has published two books, White Gardens and Grow a Cook’s Garden.


This program will look at public and private gardens from the quirky and magical to the elegant and innovative, and the creators of those garden spaces.  Learn the plants and garden art used to create these works of art.

Barb Collins has a Masters Degree in Horticulture from the University of IL, Champaign, and is the author of two books, Landscaping Herbs and Professional Interior Plantscaping.


NOAA declared 2023 as the climate’s warmest year on record.  This presentation examines wild water extremes and what we can do to help our plants survive stronger storms and warmer temperatures.

Heather Prince has been part of the green industry for more than 20 years in numerous facets from public to private gardens, and retail to wholesale nurseries.  She is a professional garden writer and trained horticulturist specializing in trees, shrubs and natives with a passion for connecting people with plants. 


This presentation explores the colors and textures of shade-loving plants, and looks at varieties and species for dry, moist, partial and dense shade.

Ken has a Masters degree in Horticulture from the University of IL, Champaign and is a landscape architect.  He’s a former Board Member of the Chicago Flower & Garden Show and a founding Board Member of the MELA – Midwest Ecological Landscapers Assn. 


Cultivation, pruning, exposure, media, watering and general maintenance will be explored.
